Aptia, a leading provider of pension administration, consultancy and actuarial services, has appointed Wendy Neller as Head of LGPS and Governance. The move reinforces Aptia’s commitment to supporting Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds with high-quality governance, administration and strategic consulting services.
Wendy joined Aptia earlier this year and brings nearly 30 years of pensions experience spanning administration, governance, strategy and regulatory oversight.
She began her career with Mercer before moving to Equiniti, where she developed expertise across pension administration and client project delivery. In 2006, she joined East Sussex County Council, where she held a number of senior roles within the LGPS, including Pensions Operational Manager and Strategy and Governance Manager. During this time, she was responsible for governance, strategy and administrative arrangements for the East Sussex Pension Fund, as well as pension administration for East Sussex Fire Authority.
In 2020, Wendy joined The Pensions Regulator as Technical Principal in Relationship Supervision (now Market Oversight), where she led engagement with pension schemes, administrators and industry stakeholders and contributed to a range of initiatives aimed at strengthening governance and improving industry practices.
As Head of LGPS and Governance, Wendy will lead Aptia's growing LGPS proposition, supporting clients as they navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape while strengthening governance, enhancing operational efficiency and improving member outcomes. Drawing on extensive experience in both local government and with the Pensions Regulator, she brings valuable expertise that will further enhance the support Aptia provides to clients.
Stuart Heatley, Aptia’s Consulting Lead, said: ‘The Local Government Pension Scheme is one of the UK's largest funded pension arrangements, with funds in England and Wales managing more than £400bn of assets and expected to continue growing in scale and influence in the years ahead.
‘We are committed to earning a place as a trusted partner to LGPS funds, and through our focus on governance, risk management and operational effectiveness, we aim to support funds in strengthening resilience, enhancing decision-making and delivering positive outcomes for members, employers and wider stakeholders. Wendy will play a key role in enhancing the expertise and support we provide to the LGPS sector.’
Wendy Neller, Aptia’s Head of LGPS and Governance, said: ‘I’m delighted to take on this role at such an important time for the LGPS. Having worked closely with administering authorities throughout my career, I understand the opportunities and challenges they face as they navigate regulatory change, rising expectations and the need to deliver strong outcomes for members. Aptia’s combination of pensions expertise, strong governance and collaborative working means we are well placed to support funds in meeting these challenges. I look forward to building on the relationships we have across the LGPS community and helping clients achieve their strategic priorities.’
